The OSB unit provides the perfect mix of fun and responsibility that will challenge teenagers to work towards achieving their potential as leaders. Two Sentinels offers an exciting leadership opportunity in the form of the One
Step Beyond unit, more commonly referred to as the OSBs. All
girls attend Session 1, where they are taught leadership basics like problem
solving, dealing with common camper issues, teaching camp songs and games, and
even how to effectively lead hikes and daytime activities. In addition, the girls will spend time
working with different units and in ad-staff positions, getting hands-on
experience at being camp staff.
It’s not all work though; since OSBs are still campers during Session 1, they get to experience the rest of camp as a unit, too. OSBs play at the waterfront, go on hikes, and immerse themselves fully in the natural beauty of the camp. They get to enjoy all of the all-camp activities, and it is not uncommon for them to volunteer to help with song leading and other program activities. During either Session 2 or 3, the girls come back and put their training to the test, working within a unit for a full session with most of the rights and responsibilities of full staff. Many campers who have attended Two Sentinels in the past look forward to becoming an OSB someday; indeed, the success of this program is shown by the number of staff currently working at Two Sentinels who went through the program themselves. This is a valuable transition unit that teaches so much more than just how to work with campers. OSBs learn about their own leadership styles, and the ideas and techniques imparted here have a good deal of “real world” application. | Age: 11th-12th Grades
