This unit is the perfect place for the adventurous camper to have the ultimate backpacking experience! The Superpacker unit is an advanced backpacking experience aimed at girls with a fair amount of backpacking experience. The highlight of this unit is the 10 day, 11 night backpacking trip where the girls are fully responsible for utilizing their backpacking skills, including bear bagging, outdoor cooking, water purification, and orienteering (reading a topographical map with compass).
Superpackers embark on a challenging and beautiful route that take them through alpine meadows in full bloom, brilliant sunsets, clear granite lakes, crystal clear brooks and the breathtaking views of the High Sierra. This is the unit our younger backpackers aspire to enter: the big, the mighty, the Superpackers! Girls returning from this trip will feel strong and accomplished and have the knowledge and skills to become lifelong practicing backpackers. Girls in this unit will be given the opportunity to work independently and take on leadership roles, with little emphasis on how to backpack. Instead, girls will learn from experienced backpacking staff how to plan and execute a future backpacking trip. The focus of this unit completely centers on backpacking, but not to worry! The girls are at camp for a full two sessions and will have ample time to participate in the camp activities. The trail route may be strenuous, but the mileage and difficulty level are chosen to provide a challenging and fulfilling trail experience to satisfy our adventurous campers. After this unit, don’t be surprised when your girl comes home ready and capable of going on her very own backpacking trip with friends! | Age: 10-12th Grades
