Water Bottles
Water is critical to keeping your body strong when you're hiking multiple days in a row. You will be in direct sun at times, carrying heavy weight, hiking most of the day. Water is sometimes scarce on some of our trails so every camper carries at least 2 full liters of water daily.
On the trail, we treat water from lakes and rivers with different methods including boiling and filtering, PolarPur, and filtration systems. The method we use depends on the water source and amount of time we have to treat the water. Filtration systems are typically built to work with the standard 2-inch diameter wide-mouth bottles, like a Nalgene. For this reason, we require every camper have a least 1 bottle of this type and size.
