First Day of Camp
Bus Ride to Camp
Bring your luggage (with luggage tags on), bus pass, and a lunch and check in with the bus host/hostess. Find a friend or sit next to someone new and make a new friend! If you tend to get carsick, take some medication before loading the bus just in case.
Arrival at Camp
Your unit staff will meet you at the bus drop-off. We'll ask you to carry any small, squishy item you can (backpack, pillow, sleeping bag in stuff sack) for the quarter-mile hike into camp. The rest of your luggage will be rowed into camp for you. There will be movies to watch.
Birdhouse Check
We know that campers who are healthy and well taken care of are much more likely to enjoy all activities and get the most out of camp. One of the first things all units do upon arrival in camp is visit the Birdhouse (infirmary). Our nurses will emphasize the rules of camp that help campers prosper in the camp environment, promote self sufficiency, and have fun. They will remind you of the importance of adequate rest, food, hydration, bug spray, and sunscreen from the start. We'll collect any medications that you brought and and let you know the daily times for visiting the Birdhouse to take regular meds. We'll also collect any electronics that you forgot to leave at home for safe-keeping until the session ends.
NOTE: Our health care personnel handle all health-related issues in a professional and confidential manner.
Swim Test
All campers take the Swim Test (administered by our Waterfront Director) which includes:
Pick Up Your Luggage
Your heavy pieces of luggage are transported into camp for you. You and your unit will pick up your luggage at the flag circle (center of camp) and take it back to your unit where you'll get settled. You'll drop off your toiletries in the nearest hard-sided building for safe-keeping.
Set Up Your Nest
Campers sleep in nests of at least four or more. Staff will help campers set up nests and get their things ready for the first night.
Camp Tour
Your staff will make sure you know where everything is in camp and that you know understand camp rules.
Evening Program
All campers and staff attend our Night 1 program on the Dining Deck where we introduce all the staff and explain our in-camp mail system called Warm Fuzzies which you can write to your friends and staff.
Serenading
Our harmony-inclined staff come around and serenade you to sleep under the stars for your first night of camp. It's the perfect kick-off to what's bound to be an amazing week!
