RANGERSstewards of the landA new unit starting in 2020, the Rangers unit will spend their week in camp, studying the many elements of the Two Sentinels ecosystem through science and art. They'll go wildlife watching around Lake Kirkwood, identify wildflowers on day hikes, paint watercolor landscapes, and make their own nature journals to record their observations. They'll learn about our trees, insects, and geology, and get extra time to observe the stars at Astronomy Rock. A special activity for Rangers is a day trip to a nearby fire department to learn about wildfire safety.
Don't forget your hiking boots because Rangers will learn the fundamentals of hiking and orienteering while exploring nearby lakes or The Sentinels. Rangers also learn basic first aid and outdoor cooking. In addition, Rangers get to participate in all the regular in-camp activities like crafts, archery, canoeing, and funyaking. Come appreciate the unique and interesting High Sierra ecosystem around us! |
