WANDERERSthe best introduction to backpackingThe Wanderers unit is the first real introduction to backpacking, aimed at girls with little to no overnight backpacking experience. The highlight of this unit is the 3-day, 2-night backpacking trip, where the girls learn and practice basic backpacking skills, including bear bagging, outdoor cooking, water purification, trail skills, and orienteering (reading a topographical map, using a compass, and finding your way).
Girls are given instruction by experienced backpacking staff in everything from backpacking skills and techniques to trail etiquette and high altitude cooking. The focus of this unit may be backpacking, but girls get the full camp experience with all the camp activities that make Two Sentinels so terrific! Most important, however, is the way girls grow on the trail; they inevitably return more confident, self-assured, and energized. The Wanderers unit is the perfect place to try out backpacking in a safe and fun environment. Wanderers usually embark on a beautiful trail loop that takes them through alpine meadows in full bloom, clear natural lakes, and breathtaking views of the High Sierra. Our trail for each year is determined in late spring, when we can assess snow levels, water availability, and trail safety. On the trail, campers make friends, sleep under the stars, write trail songs, and create lifelong memories. After camp, don’t be surprised if your daughter comes home hooked on backpacking for life! Special Dietary Needs: For the safety of other campers with food allergies, we are unable to accommodate vegan, celiac, nut-free diets, or severe allergies on backpacking trips. We can accommodate vegetarians. |
