Backpacking Gear Guide

Even if you’ve backpacked at Two Sentinels before, we provide the following gear guidance to ensure your backpacking experience is successful. When you carry your entire camping “house” on your back, your equipment can make or break the trip. Remember that half your pack will carry group food and cooking equipment so avoid bulky items when selecting equipment and clothing. If you are concerned about the expense, please contact us. We will work something out, but it’s imperative that you arrive at camp prepared for a successful trip.

The most important items for a successful trip are:
  • Backpack
  • Boots
  • Sleeping bag
  • Rain protection
See the pages in this guide for more details on how to get properly equipped.
Download the complete backpacking packing list in your unit confirmation packet.

How to Pack for Camp as a Backpacker

In your confirmation packet, you received 2 packing lists:
  • Regular in-camp packing list (meant for campers staying in camp for the entire session).
  • Backpacking packing list specific to your trip length.
There are duplicates between the lists but there’s no need to duplicate your equipment. You’ll take your backpacking equipment out of the equipment you bring to camp when you get ready for your trip.

We recommend you start by packing the items you will only use on the trail in your backpack then pack everything else you’ll also use before and after the trail in your in-camp luggage.

If you have any questions, contact us.
