To Do and Know Before Registration 2023

Get ready for another great summer at Two Sentinels!! Below is info about our registration and camp dates.

Camper Registration Opens Saturday, February 4, 2023 9AM Pacific
The link to Ultracamp will be available from our site header and on the Registration page. Full registration instructions as well as answers to common questions can be found here.

Staff and Staff Kid Early Registration Opens Saturday, January 7, 2023 9AM Pacific
Two Sentinels is run entirely by volunteers! It's a great way to experience for yourself the magic of camp that your kids rave about. Another benefit is our full-session counselor staff get to sign their kids up for camp before public registration. If you would like to apply to be full-session counselor staff, see Volunteer! and register as staff with your kids before Jan 26th.  Staff registration closes Jan 26, 2023 at 12PM.
We do our best to accept as many staff as possible, but our site numbers are limited by the Forest Service and staff positions are in high demand. Please be as flexible as possible with your volunteering dates so we can get you and your campers into camp. We consider certifications, experience, special skills, and your children’s placement in staffing decisions. We will notify all staff applicants by no later than Feb 3, 2023 if they have been accepted as staff. If you aren't accepted, you'll need to reregister your kids during public registration.

Prior to Ultracamp Registration for Two Sentinels
  • Register your campers as Girl Scouts on the Girl Scouts site. Do this before you go to register for Two Sentinels! We used to do this for you after camp registration and included the cost as part of your fees. Ultracamp registration will prompt you for your child’s troop number or to enter “Independent” for Juliettes (if they don’t have a troop). For boy Tags, enter “boy Tag” at this step. For staff, you'll enter "Adult" at this step.
  • For detailed instructions on how to register your camper as the correct type of Girl Scout, see Step 1 of the I want to register my camper help section.

During Ultracamp Registration
  • Once you start registration in Ultracamp, your spot is reserved for 15 minutes! Please take your time and fill everything out thoroughly.
  • You'll now fill out health questions during the registration in an effort to reduce the paperwork you have to upload later. Expect to spend more time filling out registration.
After Registration
  • If you do not receive a registration confirmation email, you are not finished! Make sure you check out and save your registration.
  • Fees and health forms will be due May 15. Schedule your physical with your doctor ASAP! All campers and staff must have a current health form signed by a physician to attend camp.

All Units Except OSBs
First come, first served. Register on Ultracamp. Our camp fills fast. If your unit of choice is full when you go to register (and some units may be full immediately when registration begins), sign up on the waiting list. We try to get as many campers into camp each summer as we can.
Note: Please sign up on the waiting list for the unit and session you most want to attend so we know where we need to open space. Signing up on multiple waitlists that aren't really an option or desirable for you creates more confusion than it solves.

Note: Fireflies is a single-session unit but the unit begins 2 days earlier than all other units to accommodate the 6-day trail trip. Campers must arrange their own transportation to camp due to the earlier start date.

OSBs
Register on Ultracamp. Then campers must submit an additional application and letter of recommendation due Feb 22, 2023. Placement will include factors like previous TS experience, camper age, and the supplemental application. All campers applying for these units will need to select a first and second choice. All campers will be notified of their final unit placement by March 3, 2023.
  • Register for the session you want to do your OSB training week in, either Session 1 or 2. During your supplemental application in Google Forms, you will tell us if you can return for your 2nd week of staffing training, either Session 2 or 3.
Camp Dates
Session 1       July 9-16, 2023
Session 2       July 19-26, 2023
Session 3       July 29-August 5, 2023
**Fireflies arrive 2 days early for each session

Small Job Volunteers
If you can’t commit to being full-session staff but want to help out for early registration benefits, we will send out a Google Form for Small Job Volunteers in January after staff registration opens. Watch our Facebook page--these spots go quickly so keep an eye out!

We can’t wait to return to our summer home in the mountains and have your daughter join us for a camp experience she will never forget. Camp makes a significant impact in kids’ lives. It’s a place for them to gain confidence, explore new things, and learn about nature and themselves. We thank you for your support by making camp part of your child’s life.

Thanks for all you do and we can’t wait to see you! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to email us.

Changes for 2022
Trekkers and Superpackers is now first-come, first-served like all other units. Campers registering for these units no longer need to submit  a supplemental application and reference letter to be considered. We always try to get as many campers into these units as possible as they are in high-demand. Due to our graduated program, we do prioritize campers ageing out of these units. This means if you register for Trekkers or Superpackers and you have not completed other backpacking units leading up to this level, we may reach out about moving you to a shorter backpacking trip to make room for campers who will age out of these units. Completing the shorter trips beforehand also ensures campers are set up for success on these longer trips.

COVID-19
As with 2021, we are still monitoring the COVID-19 situation and working closely with Girl Scouts of Northern California and our local health department to determine different scenarios that might occur this summer. At this time, we are confident we will be able to run camp in Summer 2022. June COVID-19 Update

6/30/2021

Two Sentinels Campers and Staff,

After the recent California state reopening on June 15, we’ve reviewed the most recent CDC and Girl Scouts of Northern California guidelines with the Amador County Environmental Department. We want to update you on the adjustments we’re making to our current COVID-19 protocols at camp as a result. We will continue to adjust accordingly and communicate any changes to you in advance of your camp session starting. We need and appreciate your flexibility, understanding, and patience as we work hard to make camp safe and possible this summer.
CRITICAL REMINDERS
  • All vaccinated camp persons (staff or campers) must provide proof of vaccination.
    • You can upload proof of COVID-19 vaccine in Ultracamp up to 3 days prior to camp arrival; or you can show your vaccine card in person (a copy or cell phone picture is fine) when you arrive at the bus stop (or at camp if you are going directly there).
  • All unvaccinated camp persons (staff or campers) must present a negative COVID-19 test result from within 3 days of arriving at camp. Any type of COVID-19 test is acceptable including over-the-counter tests.
    • If you had COVID-19 in the 3 months prior to camp, you can bring either dated proof of confirmed COVID-19 infection OR a positive antibody test result.
Changes to COVID-19 Protocols at Camp
Masks

  • For most outdoor activities, we will not require masks, regardless of vaccination status and intermingling of groups.
  • We will still require masks for high transmission activities outdoors such as making lunches and setting tables for meals.
  • We will require masks indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Indoor experiences are minimal at camp, like going into the Birdhouse to get daily medications, carpooling to offsite activities, or riding the bus.
  • We support and encourage anyone who feels more comfortable wearing a mask more often to continue to do so.
Meal Times
  • All units will eat meals at the same time on the Dining Deck instead of staggering meal times. Units will still eat together as a cohort--no intermingling at meals.
All-Camp Gatherings
  • We will not require masks for all-camp gatherings outdoors where units remain in cohorts. This may include daily flag ceremonies, campfires, Wishboat, and other large all-camp gatherings.
Previously communicated COVID-19 protocols not noted as changed above remain the same. See the COVID-19 page on our website for a full list of current protocols.

May COVID-19 Update

5/8/2021

Two Sentinels Campers and Staff,

First of all: Reminder! Health forms and fees are due May 15! You can upload your completed health form (must be signed by a physician) in Ultracamp and also pay your fees there too!

We’ve reviewed the most recent CDC and American Camping Association guidelines with the Amador County Health Department and identified our COVID-19 protocols to ensure camper and staff safety this summer. If the CDC and ACA guidelines change, we will adjust accordingly and communicate any changes to you in advance of your camp session starting. We need and appreciate your flexibility, understanding, and patience as we work hard to make camp safe and possible this summer. Here are our current plans:

April COVID-19 Update

4/2/2021

Dear campers and staff,

We are excited to update you that we have indication from the CDC and local health department that we will be able to run camp this summer! We want to let you know that we are excitedly moving forward with preparations. We don’t yet know exactly what modifications we may need to make due to COVID-19. We are working with Amador County health department and Girl Scouts of Northern California to determine what safety precautions we need to take and will inform you as soon as we know more.

Some preliminary notes that may help you:
  • We cannot enforce requiring a COVID-19 vaccine to attend camp for campers or staff. We of course highly encourage anyone who has the ability to get a vaccine to do so.
  • We are not considering requiring campers or staff to fulfill a quarantine period before attending camp as this would be impossible to confirm.
  • The types of modifications we are considering are things like: wearing masks, taking temperatures before getting on the bus and before meals, units staying together as a cohort for meals to reduce inter-unit mingling, and staggering meal times to reduce the number of people gathering at once.
  • We may need to split units into smaller groups. We will contact you if we need to adjust your unit placement in any way.
STAFF: The CDC recently expanded the definition of "essential workers" to incorporate out-of-school time workers, including camp staff. You can sign up for a vaccination appointment under the "Education and childcare" category. Bring your staff acceptance email if you need to present proof. We are planning on doing staff training in June in person.

Of course, as with anything in life, this situation could change, but we are hopeful and preparing to welcome you back to camp this summer!

We will keep you updated as we know more.

To Do and Know Before 2021 Registration

2/21/2021

Get ready for another great summer at Two Sentinels!! Below is info about our registration dates, camp dates, and COVID-19 considerations.

Camper Registration Opens Saturday, March 6, 2021 9AM Pacific
The link to Ultracamp is available from our site header and on the Registration page. Full registration instructions as well as answers to common questions can be found here.

Registration Changes for 2021:
Prior to Ultracamp registration for Two Sentinels:

  • Register your campers as Girl Scouts on the Girl Scouts site. Do this before Two Sentinels registration begins on March 6! We used to do this for you after camp registration and included the cost as part of your fees. Ultracamp registration will prompt you for your child’s troop number or Juliette number (if they don’t have a troop).
  • For detailed instructions on how to register your camper as the correct type of Girl Scout, see Step 1 of the I want to register my camper help section.

During Ultracamp registration:

  • Once you start registration in Ultracamp, your spot is reserved for 15 minutes! Please take your time and fill everything out thoroughly.
  • Due to the COVID-19 possibility that we might not be able to have camp again this summer, we aren’t requiring camper deposits/fees during initial registration. If you choose to pay these now and we can’t have camp, we’ll refund your paid fees.
  • You’ll sign a new COVID-19 agreement as part of the parent permission sections. Plans may change between registration and camp and we may have to institute safety protocols or cancel camp.

After registration:

  • If you do not receive a registration confirmation email, you are not finished! Make sure you check out and save your registration.
  • If camp happens this summer, fees and Health Forms will be due May 15.

COVID-19
As with 2020, we are still monitoring the COVID-19 situation and working closely with Girl Scouts of Northern California and our local health department to determine different scenarios that might occur this summer. We are not yet sure what camp will look like this summer or whether it will be possible to run but we remain hopeful.

We may need to add safety protocols, similar to what we considered for 2020, like routine temperature checks and keeping units together as cohorts or pods and reducing intermingling during activities. We will continue our existing practices that reduce the spread of germs at camp including sleeping outside (weather permitting), hand sanitizer before every meal, and bleaching bathrooms daily and dishes after every meal.

We will inform you as soon as we have more information about our operation and safety protocols for this summer. See COVID-19 for latest updates.

The Big Question
What about the unit I registered for in 2020? Can I do that unit in 2021?

  • You may register for any unit you are eligible for in 2021 by your grade. Ultracamp will automatically show you only units you are eligible for based on the grade you are entering in Fall 2021. If you are still eligible in 2021 for the unit you signed up for in 2020, you can register for that unit again.
  • Example: If you registered for Rovers in 2020 and are still eligible for Rovers in 2021, you can register for Rovers again in 2021. If you registered for Superpackers in 2020 but are now past the eligible grade for Superpackers in 2021, you can’t register for Superpackers in 2021.
  • We are not able to accommodate campers going back and completing units missed due to COVID-19 in 2020 they are no longer eligible for in 2021. We all missed out on things we hoped to do in 2020. Unfortunately, this is another one of those scenarios.

Single-Session Units
First come, first served. Register on Ultracamp. Our camp fills fast. If your unit of choice is full when you go to register (and some units may be full immediately when registration begins), sign up on the waiting list. We try to get as many campers into camp each summer as we can.

Note: Fireflies is a single-session unit but the unit begins 2 days earlier than all other units to accommodate the 6-day trail trip. Campers must arrange their own transportation to camp due to the earlier start date.

Two-Session Units: Trekkers, Superpackers, OSBs
Register on Ultracamp. Then campers must submit an additional application and letter of recommendation due March 21, 2021. Placement will include factors like previous TS experience, camper age, and the supplemental application. All campers applying for these units will need to select a first and second choice. All campers will be notified of their final unit placement by April 4, 2021.
  • If you applied to these units in 2020 and are reapplying in 2021 (you must still be eligible by grade in 2021 to reapply), you do need to reregister in Ultracamp but you don’t need to resubmit your supplemental application. We will use your application from 2020.
  • Acceptance into these units in 2020 does not guarantee acceptance in 2021.
  • OSBs: Register for the session you want to do your OSB training week in, either Session 1 or 2. During your supplemental application in Google Forms, you will tell us if you can return for your 2nd week of staffing training, either Session 2 or 3.
Camp Dates
Session 1       July 11-18, 2021
Session 2       July 21-28, 2021
Session 3       July 31-August 7, 2021
**Fireflies arrive 2 days early for each session

2021 Early Registration Opportunities

2/12/2021

FEB 20, 2021 UPDATE: ALL SMALL VOLUNTEER JOBS ARE NOW FULL. PUBLIC REGISTRATION OPENS MARCH 6.

Dear camper parents,
We are excited to have your camper join us for another exciting summer at Two Sentinels!

Public registration opens on March 6th at 9AM. Currently, our volunteer full-session staff are registering themselves and their kids early, February 6-26. This is one benefit we offer our volunteer staff in return for the massive contribution they make each year to provide an amazing camp experience for all campers. You are welcome to apply as a volunteer for a full session of camp to get early registration for your camper--see Volunteer! for details if you’re interested! However we know this isn’t for everyone and the time commitment is big.

We always have a number of jobs besides full-session staff that we need help with to make camp run. If you can help with these smaller volunteer jobs, we’re offering you early registration for your camper in return. The jobs we need help with are:
  • Bus chaperones to camp
  • Precamp kid supervision while our staff complete required training
Instructions
  1. Complete the Non-Staff Small Volunteer Jobs survey.
  2. Select the job you can commit to.
  3. We will contact you directly to confirm your commitment then give you instructions on how to register your camper before February 26.
NOTE: Early registration doesn’t impact acceptance to Trekkers, Superpackers, or OSBs. These campers, whether registering early or in public registration, must complete an additional application and character reference. We evaluate all applicants equally after public registration closes.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

2021 Registration Date Change

What a crazy ride 2020 has been! We hope this email finds you safe at home and settled into the coziness of winter and a new year. We directors know it is time to be thinking about your camp plans for the summer of 2021. Like last year, COVID-19 leaves us unsure what camp will look like this summer. We promise to give you information as we have it and decisions are made. In the meantime, here is some information to get you started.

Staff and Staff/Kid Registration 2021
We are pushing back 2021 camp registration to February 6, 2021 for staff and staff kids. Staff and staff kids register early before public registration opens.

Public Registration 2021
Camper registration will begin March 6, 2021. We’ll send out more information about registration as we get closer to these dates.

We often offer the opportunity to register early for campers whose parents can commit to helping with small but critical volunteer jobs, like bus chaperone. We will send information about public registration and any early registration opportunities via email and on our
Facebook page as we get closer to registration.

Two Sentinels Capital Campaign
Camp needs your financial support to fund recent projects. See Support TS if you can help! Thank you for all you have done so far.

We look forward to camping with you under the stars at one of the most special places to us all.
Stay healthy and hopeful!

2020 Two Sentinels Camp Canceled

5/16/2020

Dear Two Sentinels Family,

We are heartbroken to inform you that we recently received communication from the Amador County Health Department (the county where our camp is located) that it's not possible for us to run our camp this year due to COVID-19. We know that this is as disappointing for you as it is for all of us but it is for everyone's safety.

Soon, we will start working on canceling all reservations and refunding all fees paid (including deposits). You do not need to take any action in Ultracamp. This situation is new so it will take us some time to work out the logistics and we will send you more information about how we'll process refunds by the end of May.

If your camper is struggling with the news of summer camp cancellation, we've compiled some tips to help your camper navigate the grieving process.

Whether you were a new camper or have been coming for years, we’re already looking forward to Summer 2021 and we can’t wait until we can be together again.

Makes no difference how far away I roam
Just to leave here will make you cry

COVID-19 Update and Timeline

4/28/2020

Dear Two Sentinels Family,

As the COVID-19 situation continues to develop, we are working closely with Girl Scouts of Northern California to determine different scenarios that might occur this summer. We want to inform you early on what we’re thinking so you are prepared. We appreciate all of your flexibility, love, and support as we work through this together!

The first thing to know is your safety is our #1 priority. Right now, we are preparing to ensure your safety and still run camp this summer. Our hope is this will be possible, and we know it’s yours too. Our program and location luckily provide us flexibility and time to watch how the COVID-19 situation develops a little further.

Still, we know preparing for camp takes time so we want to tell you now what our plans currently are. As with everything in this developing situation, this could change and we will communicate any changes to you.

Timeline

June 10, 2020 - Final Camp Go/No Go Date
We hope to know and communicate to you by June 10, 2020 at the latest whether we will be able to run camp as normal, in a modified way, or not at all. The decision will obviously rely heavily on whether it is safe to leave our homes and gather in groups of some size this summer.

Until we can make this final decision, we are operating under the assumption that we will have a full summer of camp. See below for what you need to know to prepare!

April 26, 2020 - Virtual Firefly, Trekker, Superpacker Prep Meeting
Moved to virtual ZOOM meeting. All Fireflies, Trekkers, and Superpackers campers should have received an email with details already.

June 15, 2020 - NEW Health Form and Fees Deadline
Health forms and fees now due June 15 instead of May 15. How do I get my health form signed for camp?
  •  Girl Scout Council has agreed that if you completed a health form last year, this is sufficient for you to attend camp this year as well.
  •  If you didn’t come to camp last year, you must get a health form filled out and signed by a physician. This will take extra coordination so we recommend you:
    • Start now!
    • Reach out to your doctor via phone or email about this ASAP.
    • Try to do a phone appointment with your doctor.
    • Ask if you can send your completed health form to them via email and have them sign it and email it back or mail it to you.
    • Then upload it via Ultracamp to us.

Potential Safety Measures

If we can run camp this summer, we will still need to make some adjustments to ensure everyone’s health and safety in alignment with safety guidelines. Protocols may include:
  • Temperature checks before getting on the bus or arriving on site.
  • Sending home campers or staff who fall ill during the session.
  • Staggering meal times and large gatherings like campfires to reduce the number of people gathering at once.

If We Can't Run Camp At All

We will refund ALL fees including deposits, no matter how late we have to cancel.

We all recognize that we could receive information from the CDC or health department at any time that could mean this is what we need to do to ensure everyone’s safety.

What If I Don't Think I Want to Come to Camp Regardless?

We completely understand if you feel it’s in your best interest to stay home this summer, even if we are able to run camp. Please let us know ASAP if you think camp won’t be an option for you because we still have campers on waiting lists and need to ensure that we have staffing coverage for all units.

Extra Staff Dates/Info

April 24-26, 2020 - New Backpacking Staff Training Weekend Postponed
If we are able to reschedule for a later date, we’ll send details to staff.

May 3, 2020 - New Staff Orientation
Will be held virtually on May 3. Details to come for new staff!

May 23, 2020 - Mandatory Staff Training Weekend Go/No-Go Date
We will inform all staff if we need to swap in-person training weekend (June 5-7) for a virtual online option instead.

A Note About Staff Certifications

  • You can complete ServSafe entirely online.
  • American Red Cross is extending existing certifications for Lifeguarding for 90 days. Example: If your lifeguarding certification was set to expire June 1, 2020, it is now good through September 1, 2020 and would cover you for camp.
  • American Red Cross Wilderness First Aid certifications have been extended 3 months. NOLS certifications expiring between 3/13/2019 and 9/12/2020 have been extended by 6 months.
Stay safe and healthy!
